Part 24: The Beast (Mari version)

There's only one dungeon left for now. Ishikar, show them how it's done.

Wow. Kill 3 monsters. So exciting. Something tells me this update will have 2 adventures in it.

Okay, that amused me.

You have a strange family, Ishikar.

Hopefully the similarity ends on the rat's susceptibility to corrosive substances.

Another exciting battle against a rat. Hopefully something that'll keep the audience awake is going to show up soon.
But wait, there is a treasure chest here! Maybe something cool is inside?

Ishikar reaches into the chest and obtains... a fez.

Seriously though, the fez is awesome. Arcane 2 and one more card on hand? Yes please.

Let's finish this exciting adventure by beating up a bat.

Mmm, look at this hand size. Pity we won't need it against such a weak enemy anyway.

Still no offensive cards? Oh. I can see where this is going...

Ishikar: "One shot kill!"

And thus that adventure ended. That really wasn't so exciting. Let's give another one a go, shall we?

Okay, this sounds much better.

The horrible monstrosity attacks! Look how close to us it is! Furthermore, there are two negative fountains on our escape route. We also didn't draw any level 1 monsters for this turn. This will be a tricky adventure to survive. Good luck, Ishikar!

...The fact that your intent on going into the Chimera's direction doesn't help your survival.

The Chimera likes the taste of the serpent. You could even call it a snake ea-
Ishikar: "Please no."

Finally a monster we can fight and survive! Lured by the shiny coins, Ishikar attacks the bat.

Surprising nobody, Ishikar easily dispatches the bat. Or was is perhaps a flying lizard? This charm had to come from somewhere.
Also, level 2 Arcane for a level 1 item is really overpowered. Not complaining though!

Yes. Avoid the bad fountains, go straight for the rat, and let the chimera chomp on another monster behind you. Everything goes right.

Really weird loot today. Bats are lizards, rats lay eggs. Everything I knew is a lie.

No level-appropriate monsters to kill again. Oh well. I'm not gonna take our chances with a level 3 enemy just yet.

What do you need myrtleberries for?
Ishikar: "They're a common ingredient in mental stimulation potions. Some subpar tacticians drink those in order to keep their senses keen in battle."
That sounds reasonable.
...
Hey, wait a second. I'm the one giving orders in battle! That means-

Ishikar: "Can't talk, must beat this plant and make a comfortable robe from its leaves."

Ishikar: "Also this owlbear."

4 damage is meaningless against a Quick attack!

As a reward, we get a hat that's actually a hat.

The next owlbear we beat up gives us this sweet, sweet staff.

You know what? I think Ishikar is overpowered enough already. Let's fight the boss and finish this map.
Ishikar: "...One more owlbear before that?"
You know what? Sure.

That Derrik looks like a lot of monsters. I'm not sure I want to meet him.

No good loot. Just money. Well, it was probably worth it anyway.

The beast moves in for the kill!

Its opening strike is... less than impressive. You won't eat this dungeoneer so easily, boyo.

Okay, that's more impressive. Luckily we have a good counter to it.

Two more magic attacks, and the enemy is below 50% HP! Its Fury ability activates!

Ishikar: "That won't help you. Eat an insane amount of magic missiles!"

Chimera: "...Ed..."
Ishikar: "What?"

Let's not dwell on that. Victory is ours!
Well, this is really just quite surprising
Most dungeoneers are cannon fodder
Against all odds they keep surviving
They're so dumb, why even bother?
Yes. Thank you for that.

...Let's keep the local drunks out of the trophy room. Just in case.
