Part 12: Run To The Hills

Beating Embro unlocked another dungeon. But we still have one more to go before exploring new ones... Remember the treasure dungeon where Fri got all the chests? Let's see if there's more loot there to pick up.

Well, that's promising.

Arach: "It wasn't even me! It was Fri!"

This is the distance between the Mimic Queen and us. In order to survive in this dungeon, we need to strike a balance between setting down more corridors, putting monsters to farm on, and putting monsters to slow the Mimic Queen down.

We'll start by killing this spider.

Another spider will slow our pursuer down. She stomps on it, but moves only 1 square.

Thanks to his new weapon Arach easily dispatches the imp and gets a sweet hat.
Arach: "It looks stupid."
Yes it does. It also gives +1 HP. We'll need that.

Unfortunately, we didn't have enough monsters to slow down the Mimic Queen. Oh no! She draws closer!
...Actually, at this pace it'd take her a few more moves to catch up to us. But let's not ruin the dramatic tension.

A new enemy, one of the Mimic Queen's loyal lackeys! What abilities does it possess?

Same old crap. Nothing we haven't seen before.

Despite the numerous bite marks the mimic left on him, Arach succeeds and obtains an even more dignified hat.

At the same time, a Bear Owl dumbly wanders into the dungeon and gets turned into a pancake by the giant chest with teeth pursuing us.
Arach: "Why do such things always happen to me..."

Cheer up mate. Have some gold to feel better.

And a freakin' awesome helmet to boot.
...We should probably start focusing on other gear instead of just cycling helmets.

Here we can see the Mimic Queen brutally tearing a bedsheet ghost to shreds. How violent.

Another mimic bites the dust. I'm sure this doesn't make their queen even more angry!

How will Arach fare against one of the most dangerous monsters in the dungeon?

As it turns out, pretty well.

MORE EQUIPMENT CYCLING

I'm tempted to cycle even more equipment and get that hat for its awesome healing abilities... But nah, let's go with the shield. More HP is always good.

The Mimic Queen is drawing closer. In preparation, let's equip a slightly better weapon.

Arach: "More armor switching?"
It's the last time, I swear. Besides, Brace is really good, much better than Rekindle + Restore.

Arach: "I thought that was the last time."
Hey, this is a strict upgrade! It doesn't count!

Then we just farm some monsters on the way. Count on a greedy dungeoneer (or maybe just on Arach) to grab some coins even as he's fleeing for his life.

But then, the thirst for filthy lucre drives him in a corner.

And the Mimic Queen catches up to us!

She has the Brittle trait, which is like Decay doubled - if she takes 4 or more damage in a round, she also takes 2 more.
Spoilers: we won't have a chance to take advantage of it in this fight.

Offensively, the Mimic Queen is not the most powerful enemy. Her strength lies in her unreasonably large HP pool and especially her pursuit on the map. If you're not good at slowing her down, she'll catch you underlevelled and unprepared!
Good that's not the case here, eh?

Arach sets the monster on fire. But she manages to survive!
Mimic Queen: "Oh I'm really angry now!"

So angry her heart gives out. Or whatever is the heart equivalent for a living chest monster.

The bard is feeling lazy and sings an old song again - the one about a brave young dungeoneer.
...Okay, I should mention that its second line is "you held your line and acted very brave". Maybe now that I made this correction, he'll sing something new to us for a change.

I sure would, Jess. I sure would.
...Waitasec. Was that about me?
